The Bomb, Medium Capacity, 22,000 lb (Grand Slam) was a 22,000 lb (10,000 kg) earthquake bomb used by RAF Bomber Command against German targets towards the end of the Second World War. Designed by Barnes Wallis, it embodied his vision of a deep-penetration weapon capable of destroying hardened structures through shockwaves transmitted underground. It was the largest and most powerful conventional aerial bomb used by either side during the war. This particular model represents the Grand Slam bomb dropped on the Bielefeld viaduct on 14 March 1945, one of the most notable operational uses of the weapon.
