Tallboy Bomb: A Precision Earthquake Weapon
The Tallboy, officially designated the Medium Capacity 12,000 lb bomb, was a British deep-penetration weapon developed during World War II by engineer Barnes Wallis. The Tallboy was engineered to strike underground, transmitting shockwaves through soil and rock to collapse hardened structures from below, hence its nickname: the earthquake bomb.
Only modified Avro Lancasters could carry the Tallboy, with bomb bay doors removed and structural reinforcements added. It was used by 617 Squadron RAF, famed for the Dambusters.
Even near misses could cause catastrophic damage—landslides, tunnel collapses, and structural failures—thanks to the bomb’s underground shockwave effect.
Pioneered the concept of bunker-busting ordnance, influencing postwar weapons like the BLU-109 and GBU-28
The model was built using information, photos and images from internet, therefore its geometry and details are not engineering correct or exact.
